20 years old in Japan

in Japan, majority is set to 20 years old. Young people are strictly prohibited to drink until then for example, and so Coming of Age is a big day in many aspects. This is also the 1st time where young ladies receive their kimono.

Mothers spend months before preparing and purchasing accessories spending a fortune for the event.

Town Halls in all cities and wards prepare a ceremony where all attend, then, they spend time at the shrine. it is a beautiful day, young men in their best attires and sometimes traditional costumes, ladies in their new kimono all around the country.
